Porto 1-0 Galatasaray: Porto get first win of Champions League campaign
Porto earned all three points in a tight affair over Turkish giants Galatsaray, securing a 1-0 win thanks to Moussa Marega’s second-half header.
But Porto had veteran goalkeeper Iker Casillas to thank for going into half time with the scores level, with the former Spain international pulling off two excellent one-on-one saves to prevent the deadlock from being broken.
Porto did have chances of their own in the first half though, most notably a wonderfully hit volley from Brahimi after Jesus Corona worked his magic down the right flank, a shot which was impressively stopped by the strong hand of Muslera.
In a game that was open and not short of chances, it was therefore somewhat surprising that no goals came about by the time the referee blew for half time, with the game on a knife-edge.
But it didn’t take long for Porto to rectify the situation, with Alex Telles’ whipped corner meeting the head of the unmarked Marega, who had the simple task of nodding home from the edge of the 6-yard box.
Porto then had further chances to extend their lead, with Marega unable to convert a one-on-one effort and double his tally on the night, his tame effort stopped by Muslera, while substitute Andre Pereira had a chance of his own to confirm the victory.
But, despite pressure from Galatsaray, Porto saw out the game to secure a potentially crucial victory and hopped to joint first in the table alongside Schalke, who Porto drew against in the first gameweek.
