Braga only managed to earn a point at home to Rio Ave in their bid to make a title charge, with Rio Ave continuing their own very strong start to the season, now up to fifth in the table, above Sporting.

Elsewhere, Setubal got a much-needed victory to take them away from the relegation zone and up to tenth, leapfrogging their opponents Moreirense who they easily dismantled.

And Guimarães, which have had a very mixed season so far this campaign, unable to string together a good series of results, responded to their defeat last weekend with an impressive away victory to Madeira's Maritimo.

Braga took the lead in their game eight minutes before half time, courtesy of the in-form Ricardo Horta, who tucked the ball into the bottom corner and back of the net in the 37th minute.

However, they did not hold on to half time, with Rio Ave responding just before half time.

Gelson Dala was the man that for the goal, sliding the ball past the on-running goakeeper after summer recruit Fabio Coentrão played him in from the halfway line.

Braga were unable to get the goal to extend their lead at the top of the table to 5 points heading into the Porto-Benfica clash, but can consider themselves somewhat fortuitous to have any share of the points after a collision in the box could easily have been given as a penalty.
