Porto 4-1 Lokomotiv Moscow: Porto on the brink of Champions League round of sixteen
Porto stormed to an impressive 4-1 victory over Russian champsions - and top seeds - Lokomotiv Moscow as they took another step towards the Champions League round of sixteen.
Striker Moussa Marega squeezed a pass through to Hector Herrera who slotted home into an open net in the opening two minutes, getting Porto off to the best of starts. Porto then doubled their lead towards the end of the half, as Herrera and Marega reversed their roles, Herrera turning provider as he played Marega in behind the defence, who slotted the ball past the keeper.
Lokomotiv Moscow gave themselves a sliver of hope when they reduced the deficit to 2-1 just after half time after a corner was headed home by Farfan, past Iker Casillas.
But Porto were always in control, and capitalised on a goalkeeping error as Guilherme cleared the ball straight to Oliver Torres, who played a beautiful cross-field ball to Jesus Corona, who fired the ball through Guilherme and into the back of the net.
The victory was rounded off by a truly stunning long-range effort by Otavio, who, despite the heavily wet conditions, curled the ball into the back of the net from the edge of the box.
The win means that Porto need, at most, a single point from their final two games to confirm their place in the last sixteen of Europe’s elite competition, while their place in the next round will also be confirmed without having to play another game should Galatasaray lose against Lokomotiv Moscow at the end of the month.
Porto next face Schalke in Portugal, having drawn 0-0 against the Germans in their first fixture of the Champions League campaign, on 28th November.
