Tondela 0-1 Braga: Braga continue form to put the pressure on Porto
Braga continued their great start to the season by edging out a close encounter with Tondela to regain second place in the table.
Braga went into the game knowing that victory would see them jump above Sporting, who play tomorrow, and extend their lead over Benfica, who played later in the day.
And it was the in-form Wilson Eduardo who found the back of the net, smashing a delightful volley into the back of the net after a delicate over the head assist by Fransergio in the 32nd minute.
Tondela did, however, find the back of the net twelve minute before Wilson broke the deadlock, but it was ruled out after being found to be ever so marginally offside.
They went into the break on level terms, but Tondela did push for the leveller after the interval, Tiago Sa forced to scramble back and claw the ball out from trickling over the goal-line after Patrick’s deflected shot wrong-footed him in the 66th minute, before he then had to push Xavier’s long-range strike over the bar 5 minutes later.
However, Braga saw it out and managed to earn a potentially crucial 1-0 victory in their bid to keep up their title challenge.
Braga are currently the only side to have lost just once this season, a record better than all of Benfica, Porto and Sporting.
