Former Porto striker Jackson Martinez returns to the Primeira Liga as he joins Portimonense
The deadline day in Portugal continues to throw up surprises as the 31-year old ex-Porto striker completes a move to Portimonense.
The Colombian, who is capped 40 times at senior international level, has been playing in the Chinese Super League for the past two seasons, having joined Guangzhou Evergrande for an Asian record fee of 42 million euros in February 2016.
However, having only played 16 games for the Chinese outfit, scoring four goals in the process, he sustained a serious injury in October 2016 that put him out of action for the following 18 months. He was subsequently released from his contract in March of this year, and has been looking for a new club since.
Martinez, despite his injury and fitness concerns, has a tremendous record in Portugal and is an excellent coup for Portimonense, who were only promoted to the top flight of Portuguese football last season. With Porto - who he joined in 2012 - he managed to get himself an impressive 92 goals in 136 games.
