Surprise revelation as Yacine Brahimi set to join new club
Yacine Brahimi has been a free agent since his contract with FC Porto expired at the end of the season.
The Algerian international, who has just come back from international duty after winning the African Cup of Nations, most recently played for FC Porto, and was one of their longest serving players until his time with the Portuguese club came to an end this summer.
Having been at Porto since 2014, the 45-time international was always expected to embark on a new adventure - but it is the chosen destination that comes as a surprise.
Strong reports had emerged from Algeria that the 29-year old winger was to sign for English Premier League outfit Arsenal after his country had finished competing in the continental competition, but that move never came to fruition.
Instead, Brahimi has already arrived in Qatar to sign for his new club - Al Rayyan.
The move comes as something of a surprise, with Brahimi having been linked with some substantial European clubs this summer, from the likes of England, Spain and Turkey.
Nevertheless, the Algerian winger has joined the Qatari side, who finished 4th in their domestic league last season.
