Andre Silva's move to Monaco in doubt, alternative arrangements may be required
Andre Silva’s proposed move to Monaco is under threat.
A move to the Ligue 1 outfit was highly anticipated, with Leonardo Jardim’s side expected to complete the signing for a fee in the region of 30 million euros.
However, the deal is now in serious doubt and has currently collapsed, the exact reason for which still disputed by various corners of the media.
Reports from Italy indicate that the breakdown comes as a result of the Portuguese striker failing to reach an agreement with Monaco with regards to his contract, while Monaco are also looking to lower the agreed fee at the final minute.
If this is the genuine reason for the move currently being put on hold, there is always a chance that the deal can be resurrected, should compromise be found on both sides. As such, while the move is currently off the table, with all parties currently far apart, the deal could still be revived and may go through at a later date.
At the same time, though, word from Portugal is that the deal is actually called off because the 23-year old Portuguese international failed his medical, his injury record preventing a deal from going through. If such sources prove correct, the deal is likely permanently off the table.
Jorge Mendes is understood to now be making alternative arrangements, and will be pushing for a new move for his client in a bid to pick up more regular football should this deal not go through, which currently looks likely.
That is because AC Milan have given up on Andre Silva, who they signed for 35 million euros back in 2017, and are looking to let him leave on a permanent deal to try and recoup as much money as possible on the former Porto forward.
Last month, we assessed where Andre Silva could end up, looking at various clubs that could acquire the Portuguese striker, and Monaco were considered one of the more likely destinations. If that does fall through entirely, though, the other clubs singles out as perhaps most likely to sign Andre Silva were Roma, Wolves and Valencia.
Andre Silva also comes off the back of a very challenging season, where he scored 9 goals in 27 La Liga outings.
