Famalicão enter race to sign Portugal international striker
Nelson Oliveira is one player that is set for a move this summer.
Oliveira, 27, is not in Norwich City’s plans for next season, the newly-promoted side happy to see the 17-time Portugal international leave this summer.
He spent the second half of last season on loan at Reading, managed by Jose Gomes, though ultimately only played 10 games, scoring 3 goals.
And now, there is something of a bidding war for his signature.
AEK Athens manager Miguel Cardoso is one of the Portuguese managers interested in bringing in the Portuguese striker, appreciating the qualities that Oliveira would bring to the club and is interested in signing the Benfica academy product.
However, he is not the only one that is keen to complete a deal for the out-of-favour Norwich forward, with Famalicão another club that are keen on bringing him in.
With Jorge Mendes helping out the club with a lot of impressive transfers this summer, the fact Oliveira is a Mendes client could well help facilitate a move to the Primeira Liga newcomers, who the Portuguese superagent has taken a vested interest in.
He would follow the likes of Fabio Martins, Diogo Goncalves and Pedro Goncalves to the club, who finished 2nd in the Portuguese second tier last season.
A deal for Oliveira should otherwise prove somewhat straightforward. Now into the last year of his contract, Norwich are keen to get him off their books to reduce their wage bill, while Oliveira is looking to join a club where he will be guaranteed more game time.
Oliveira’s departure from Norwich looks even more inevitable, what with the striker not being given a squad number for the upcoming season.
Who that next club will ultimately be though, is less certain.
