Primeira Liga duo head to English Championship
It has been confirmed that two players from the Portuguese top flight have moved to the English Championship.
Benfica’s Filip Krovinovic has joined West Bromwich Albion on a season-long loan deal, while recently relegated Feirense midfielder Tiago Silva has permanently moved to fellow English second division outfit Nottingham Forest.
Silva, 26, joins up with fellow Portuguese and former Benfica youth player Joao Carvalho, and will be hoping to strike up an impressive partnership.
Silva has been one of the standout performers for Feirense over the last three seasons and, although he suffered relegation with his side last season, common consensus dictated that Silva deserved a move, and he has now been rewarded with a move to the historic English emblem.
Silva should offer additional creativity to Forest’s midfield, possessing good passing and dribbling ability, a willing runner with the ball and best with the ball at his feet.
Krovinovic, meanwhile, should offer similar creativity for West Brom, the Croatian attacking midfielder, who will be playing under compatriot Slaven Bilic next season, showing his excellent movement and vision with Benfica’s senior team in the 2017-18 campaign.
He became one of Benfica’s key players for a brief period, one of the first names on the team sheet, but after suffering a long-term ACL injury, he never managed to get back into the starting lineup, due to the sheer depth Benfica had in their squad.
Should he recreate the form that he showed for Benfica, though, this will prove to be an exceptional signing for a second division team.
