Deadline Day: Manuel Fernandes joins new club two months after becoming free agent
On deadline day, Manuel Fernandes has finally found a new club, having been a free agent since the end of June.
Fernandes, 33, was most recently on the books of Russian outfit Lokomotiv Moscow, a side who he had represented since 2014.
His contract was not renewed at the end of the season though, meaning that he has been without a club for the past 8 weeks.
Now, however, he has found a new club, signing a one-year contract with fellow Russian Premier League outfit Krasnodar, the side who knocked FC Porto out of the Champions League last month.
They will compete in the Europa League group stage this season after a 6-1 aggregate defeat to Olympiakos in the Champions League play-off, and are in a tough group with Basel, Getafe and Trabzonspor.
There were reports earlier in the window that Turkish outfit Goztepe were very interested in signing the 15-time Portugal international, while his former club Besiktas were deemed another possible destination.
Last campaign, he played 20 of Lokomotiv’s 30 Premier League games as they earned a 2nd place finish in the league and a spot in the Champions League group stage.
He also played the entirety of the Russian Cup final last season, getting the assist as Lokomotiv earned a 1-0 victory to lift the trophy.
