Porto interested in signing Rangers striker Alfredo Morelos
FC Porto have had a longstanding interest in Alfredo Morelos - and are set to step up their bid to sign the Rangers striker should they sell Moussa Marega.
The 24-year old Colombian forward has been a star player for Rangers since joining the Scottish club in 2017, and had a highly productive campaign last season, scoring 29 goals across all competitions in 47 games.
His Europa League exploits were a particular highlight as he at times almost single-handedly led Rangers to the group stage of the competition, scoring 8 goals in 8 qualifying games, with 4 of those goals coming against Midtjylland and Legia Warsaw.
He went on to then score a further 6 goals at the Europa League proper, including two against FC Porto in the group stage. It is no wonder, therefore, that Porto maintain firm interest in securing the signature of 6-time Colombian international.
However, his arrival will likely only ever be considered a realistic possibility should Moussa Marega leave the club this summer, with the Malian having been linked with moves to the likes of West Ham United and Newcastle United. He is into his final year of contract with Porto, and it remains to be seen whether he will sign an extension.
Morelos has played 4 games for Rangers this season so far, scoring 2 and assisting 2. He has been unused for Rangers’ last two matches though.
