Interest in Porto's Sergio Oliveira picks up
After AS Roma decided against taking up the option to sign Sergio Oliveira on a permanent transfer for a pre-agreed 13 million euros, the 30-year old midfielder’s future has been unclear.
Having shown great promise as a squad player for Jose Mourinho’s side, the Italian outfit nevertheless opted against signing him, instead choosing to go for former Benfica man Nemanja Matic, who was available for free following the expiration of his contract at Manchester United.
Several clubs have since already shown tentative interest in his services, including Roma’s Serie A rivals Napoli, and La Liga side Valencia. But neither outfit seem prepared to pay Porto’s original asking price. An unnamed English club have also been interested in the Portuguese international midfielder, who can operate in virtually any role in the centre of the field.
It does mean that the asking price may need to be reduced quite considerably should Porto manage to offload the 13-time Portugal international, and may allow Roma to come back into the race to sign him.
