Portugal to play Switzerland in the Nations League semi-final
Portugal now know that they will face Switzerland in the semi-final of the UEFA Nations League on the 5th June in Porto.
Portugal have played Switzerland a couple of times in the past two years, suffering a 2-0 defeat to Switzerland away from home in their first 2018 World Cup qualifier and they're first competitive match since winning Euro 2016; in the return fixture though, Portugal came through to win 2-0 on home soil, which was sufficient to see Portugal leapfrog Switzerland into first in the group, allowing the Seleção to qualify directly for the globe's biggest international football competition.
Switzerland have never won a major trophy in their history, undoubtedly one greatest nations never to do so, and will see this as an excellent opportunity to secure a place in the history books.
Switzerland are certainly on a high, having just beaten Belgium, ranked 1st in the world rankings, 5-2 in a thrilling encounter, and will provide stern competition for the Portuguese.
Portugal have only beaten Switzerland 7 times in 22 attempts.
The other semi-final is between World Cup semi-finalists England and a resurgent Netherlands side.
