Barcelona and Portugal right back Nelson Semedo is one of only a handful of players to have played alongside both of the world superstars who are globally recognised as the best in the world - Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi. And the matter of who is better was put to him by ESPN.

Semedo has had an impressive season at the Spanish giants, playing 9 of their La Liga matches so far this campaign as well as featuring three times in the Champions League, playing alongside Messi 10 times in the process, while he has also played for Portugal 8 times in his career, playing on the same side as Ronaldo in half of those outings.

But who does the 25-year old attacking fullback think is better of the two?

When that question was put towards him by ESPN, his answer proved relatively inconclusive, starting off by saying “Messi is from another planet, he’s the difference so far,” before quickly adding “along with Cristiano Ronaldo.”

He way equally coy as he continued to answer: “I have played with the two best players in the world, I’m used to being asked about both. They are very different, but I prefer to keep my opinion of who is better to myself!”

Semedo joined Barcelona from Benfica in July 2017, for a fee in the region of £25million. And despite his consistent game time with one of the world’s biggest clubs, he has not played for Portugal for over a year, his last appearance coming in November 2017 against USA in a friendly encounter which finished 1-1.

He has not participated in any of Portugal’s last fifteen matches, with Cedric Soares, Joao Cancelo and Ricardo Pereira ahead of him in Fernando Santos’ plans.
