Andre Gomes, João Mario, Andre Silva: Transfer update as we reach the final day of the English window
English clubs have been linked with several Portuguese internationals throughout this window and, while the likes of Rui Patricio, Ricardo Pereira, João Moutinho and Diogo Dalot have already made the move to the Premier League this summer, time is running out for others to make the move to England.
One such player that has been expected to leave their club this window is Andre Gomes, who is out of favour at Barcelona and is not anticipated to be given sufficient game time if he doesn't find a new club this summer. Having been tamely linked with Tottenham earlier in the window, no offer came to fruition, and now Everton seem like they are on the verge of winning the race to sign the 25-year old Portuguese international.
Indeed, reports in Spain first claimed that Everton, managed by Portuguese coach Marco Silva, are looking likely to sign the Barcelona midfielder, who is to have a medical in preparation of joining the English club today. Negotiations are progressing well, and this is definitely one deal to keep an eye on as the window draws to a close. The deal is expected to be a loan, potentially with an option to make the deal permanent further down the line.
Meanwhile, another European Champion that is surely set to embark on a new adventure for this coming campaign is João Mario, who was on loan at West Ham last season and has been linked with a return to the club during this transfer window, while also being associated with Wolves.
However, it now seems that Tottenham may currently be the most likely English side to recruit the Inter Milan midfielder, with a loan and transfer deal both reportedly on the table, although there is nothing concrete in place for his signature. Mario is another to definitely watch out for throughout the day.
Mario made it clear throughout the summer that a return to Inter Milan was something he wanted to avoid, so will be hoping progress is made to allow him to move, even if it is not to Spurs.
Andre Silva is another to have been linked with Wolves throughout the summer, but such claims have ultimately been unfounded, with Wolves yet to make any approach to sign the young striker and not looking likely to change that either. Indeed, Andre Silva, a Jorge Mendes client, may even end up staying at Milan, where he endured a very frustrating campaign last season, having also scored the winning goal against Barcelona in the International Champions Cup in pre-season.
