Primeira Liga's Moreirense face one-year suspension from competitive football due to corruption charges
Portuguese top flight side Moreirense face a year-long suspension from competitive football after being sentenced for active corruption by a local tribunal.
The case for Moreirense, who currently sit in thirteenth place in the Portuguese Primeira Liga with 4 points from 4 games, goes all the way back to the 2011-12 campaign when they were first promoted back to the Portuguese top division; since then, they have been relegated and promoted again.
In that 2011-12 season, they were accused of bribery in two matches, against Naval and Santa Clara, the latter of which are themselves now also in the Primeira Liga.
Overall, Moreirense have been found guilty of four different corruption crimes.
Moreirense will appeal the decision.
More to come.
