From Brazil: Chelsea defender David Luiz wants to return to Benfica
Reports from Brazil have indicated that Chelsea defender David Luiz is keen on returning to his former club Benfica as he approaches the end of his playing career.
Fox Sports from the South American country have said that it is a serious ambition for the 31-year old to make a return to the Luz - but only once his current contract with Chelsea expires at the end of the current season.
Luiz has been an impressive performer for Chelsea so far this campaign, playing the entirety of every single league match so far, with exception to the away clash with Nuno Espirito Santo’s Wolves - a match that he played no part in and resulted in a surprise 2-1 defeat.
With Luiz at centreback, Chelsea have kept 10 clean sheets in the league this season, an impressive return for the London club who currently sit 4th in the English top flight.
The Brazilian international, capped 56 times at senior level, played 130 times for Benfica between 2007 and 2011, and cost Chelsea 25 million euros.
There is little doubt that Luiz would be welcomed back to Lisbon by the Benfica fans, the majority likely hoping that the reports prove to become a reality.
