Iran are out of the Asian Cup - and Carlos Queiroz steps down as manager
Carlos Queiroz's time at Iran has come to an end after a 3-0 defeat to Japan.
Iran, who were the highest ranked side in the competition based on FIFA ranking, were seen as strong candidates to lift the trophy that has evaded them since 1976.
By reaching the semi-final, Queiroz has led Iran to their best finish in the Asian Cup since 2004, with the side failing to progress past the quarter finals in each of the three editions of the competition.
In addition to making the semifinal of the continental tournament, Queiroz also oversaw Iran qualify for back-to-back World Cups for the first time in the country's history.
Queiroz now embarks on a new adventure, bringing to an end his 8 year reign of the Iran national team.
Queiroz is expected to be taking over as Colombia manager.
