Pepe to Porto still on the cards despite Monaco approach
Experienced centreback Pepe was reportedly set to dramatically call off his highly anticipated return to Portuguese champions FC Porto in favour of a move to Monaco.
However, despite the genuine and serious interest from the Ligue 1 side, Pepe, as anticipated, will turn down the approach from Monaco, and his return to Porto is still very much set to become a reality.
The Portuguese international has undergone significant negotiations with Porto and is on the verge of accepting an offer from the Portuguese giants.
Monaco, who are currently in an unexpected relegation battle, are in need of some much-needed experience to take the pressure off the young players in the squad, but will have to look elsewhere to find it, with Pepe not expected to change his mind.
Pepe's reported change of heart came as a big surprise to many in Portugal, with the media and fans alike fully expecting the 35-year old to end his career where it practically all began, a fitting end to an illustrious career, and that is still going to happen.
Pepe, despite his advancing years, remains Portugal's best defender, and will be hoping to also feature for Portugal in the UEFA Nations League this summer, which will be hosted in Porto, and Guimarães.
