Four Porto players suspended after late-night partying
Four key Porto players have been suspended by the club for disciplinary reasons after breaking the club’s curfew rule.
Starting goalkeeper Agustin Marchesin, right back Renzo Saravia, regular midfielder Mateus Uribe and key winger Luis Diaz have all been ruled out of the club’s clash with Boavista after they were out partying until 5 in the morning.
It came after Porto suffered a surprise 2-0 defeat away to Rangers in the UEFA Europa League, which has put their bid to qualify for the knockout stages of the continental competition in serious jeopardy.
The absences of the quartet could be a big blow to FC Porto’s chances of securing victory, particularly the trio of Marhcesin, Uribe and Diaz, who have between them missed just one league match this season.
Saravia, on the other hand, has failed to make any impact at all at the club and will not be seen as a big miss for the Portuguese club.
20-year old Diogo Costa is expected to replace Marchesin in between the sticks, while Porto should have more than enough cover further up the pitch to cope with the absence of the other players.
