Trio of Portuguese clubs considered among the 100 richest sides in world football
Benfica, Porto and Sporting are all present in the Soccerex Football Finance top 100 financially strong clubs on the planet.
The rankings take into a multitude of factors, including player value, club facilities, owner financial power, and net debt.
The list makes Manchester City the richest club in the world, followed by French giants PSG.
Of the Portuguese clubs, Benfica are considered the most financially stable, coming in at 66th on the list, player value being a significant factor in their position in the rankings.
In fact, with no 'owner potential investment' at the club, is a significant indicating of the high value placed on Benfica's players.
It's the same story for Porto, who are the second most financially powerful club in Portugal according to Soccerex, sitting 70th, unable to reach a higher standing due to the high level of debt the club, which is the same for Benfica.
Sporting, unsurprisingly, are the other Portuguese club on the list, sitting 98th, well before both Porto and Benfica in terms of the overall index value calculated due to a lack of as valuable players at the club.
