Nani named in MLS All-star XI
Nani has been voted as the Orlando City representative in this year’s MLS All-Stars XI.
The 32-year old Portuguese forward has been in terrific form for his club in the MLS, taking the armband almost as soon as he arrived due to his leadership and experience.
And his exploits on the pitch were equally impressive, Nani grabbing 8 goals and 1 assist in his 13 outings in the MLS for his new club.
Having been utilised in different roles across the front line during his time in America - being played on both the left and right wing at different points in the campaign, in addition to being used in that attacking midfield role just behind striker and as a centre forward at other times - Nani’s versatility has clearly been on show, and he has impressed regardless of the role he’s been asked to carry out.
Nani joined Orlando halfway through the season after mutually terminating his contract with Sporting last February, bringing an end to his third spell at the Lisbon club.
This season, while at Sporting, he also impressed, playing 18 of a possible 21 league games, captaining the side on numerous occasions as well, and grabbed 7 goals and 4 assists in the Primeira Liga alone.
Ultimately though, the 112-time Portugal international departed to America - and it’s looked like a terrific move for the veteran winger, who has scored 23 times for his country at senior level.
The Euro 2016 champion is named in the MLS All Star XI of 2019, selected by the Orlando City fans to represent them in the MLS All-Star game against Atletico Madrid on 31st July.
The MLS All-Star game is where the best players in the league come together to play against an international football club.
This year, that team will be Atletico Madrid, with the event taking place at the Orlando City stadium.
The question is: could Nani still represent his country in the future if he continues this excellent form? Let us know what you think!
