"We received a very tempting offer for Renato"
Renato Sanches’ future has been the source of significant speculation this season, and Bayern Munich have since revealed more about the transfer saga.
At the end of last season, Renato was reportedly very keen to move on after enduring yet another frustrating season in Germany, and has always made clear that he wants to do what is best for his career.
For a long time, that has been seen as leaving the Bundesliga champions, who have a wealth of talent in their ranks, making it very difficult to maintain regular first-team football.
However, in Bayern’s recent friendly International Champions Cup clash with Real Madrid, Renato was afforded 45 minutes of action - and impressed fans with his performances from midfield.
It seems as though Renato may be set to have more opportunities with Bayern for the upcoming season - and the club’s chairman Karl-Heinz Rummenigge has spoken about his future.
“During the last week, there were talks between Renato, Kovac and Salihamidzic [the sports director]. We are all convinced that Renato can still be useful to us and it was conveyed to the coach his desire to play regularly.”
“We had a very tempting offer, but he did not even want to know.”
Renato himself has also cooled rumours that he is set to depart, recently saying to Bild: “I’m ready to stay. I had good talks with the coach. I think I will stay.”
“Kovac is the boss, he makes the decisions. As long as I play, I’m happy.”
It’s an impressive turn of events that indicates discussions with staff at the club left him satisfied that he is set to be given more minutes for the German giants in the upcoming season.
