Renato Sanches completes move away from Bayern Munich
Portuguese international midfielder Renato Sanches has officially completed a move away from the Allianz Arena.
The 22-year old former Benfica star joined Bayern as a teenager back in 2016 after an impressive breakthrough season with the Portuguese champions for a fee in the region of £35million, with an additional £35million on offer should certain achievements be fulfilled.
It all looked very promising for the 18-time Portugal international, who went on to win the prestigious Golden Boy award after the 2016 Euros, which Portugal ultimately won.
However, things have been far from straight forward for Renato since he arrived in Germany, and with game time hard to come by for the Bundesliga champions, he has been vocal in his desire to leave the club.
And Renato has ultimately got his wish, completing a move to France’s surprise package of last season Lille, who finished runners up in Ligue 1 last campaign and will as a result play in the Champions League group stage this campaign.
Just recently he was quoted as saying that playing out the closing stages of matches was not sufficient for him, and he was less than pleased that he remained at Bayern Munich with such little faith being shown in him.
As a result, Bayern have given in to Renato Sanches’ demands, and he has completed a permanent move to France for a fee in the region of 25 million euros, linking up with fellow Portuguese international Jose Fonte in the process.
Renato will wear the number 18 shirt, and Benfica will receive 500,000 euros in the exchange. He signs on a four-year contract.
