João Cancelo closing in on move to the English Premier League
Juventus and Portugal right back João Cancelo is not part of the plans of new Juve coach Maurizio Sarri, and is closing in on a move away from the Italian club.
It is Manchester City who are looking to seal a deal to bring in the 25-year old Portuguese international, who played in 34 matches for Juventus across all competitions last season.
Cancelo will cost the English champions approximately £32million, not including further add-ons for specific achievements being fulfilled at his new club, while ex-Porto full-back Danilo is also expected to be part of the exchange.
The deal, when it first came to light all the way back in June, came as a relative surprise to many, with Cancelo having only arrived at Juventus at the start of the previous season and having performed well for the club during his time there.
Having played regularly for the Italian club over the last 12 months, forging a good partnership with compatriot Cristiano Ronaldo in the process, his attacking endeavour and pace was clear to see, but ultimately his defensive ability has been called into question.
Nevertheless, there is no denying that Manchester City should be the perfect club for an attacking fullback like Cancelo and, should the transfer go through, under the guidance of Pep Guardiola, it should prove an excellent piece of business.
