Benfica manager Bruno Lage teases journalists by name-dropping English winger
Bruno Lage finished his pre-match press conference by citing the name of an English winger to raise curiousity and head-scratching amongst the journalists in attendance.
With a sly smile, Lage said: “Since I’m a nice guy, I will give you a name: Adam Reach. He’s a player like Chiquinho, but he does not have Andre Almeida’s moustache."
Lage also had a comparison to make for the 26-year old, saying that he has similarities to a certain former Tottenham star, “Chris Waddle.”
Adam Reach is a left-sided footballer, able to operate as both a left back and a left winger, and currently plays for English Championship outfit Sheffield Wednesday, and Bruno Lage’s mysterious mention of his name to close the conference held ahead of the clash with Gil Vicente has led many to believe that he was, or could be, one of Benfica’s key targets.
Lage worked at Sheffield Wednesday as assistant manager of Carlos Carvalhal between 2015 and 2017, with Reach arriving at the club in August 2016 for a fee of £5million.
Lage will therefore know a fair amount about the player, and is a player that Nuno Espirito Santo was interested in signing in January, a player that would occupy that left-wing position perfectly.
Last season, he scored 8 league goals, and got another 7 assists, across 42 Championship outings.
