Nuno's Wolves brought in more money through player sales than any other English Premier League club
Of all 20 English Premier League outfits, Wolverhampton Wanderers were the side to bring in the most money through player sales this window.
Nuno Espirito Santo’s side sold Diogo Jota to Liverpool for around £45million, while Helder Costa’s move to Leeds United was also made permanent for £16million. The departure of the Portuguese duo, added to the £15million sale of Matt Dohery to Jose Mourinho’s Tottenham Hotspur, means Wolves brought in a total of £76million through transfers.
According to a report from Sky Sports, it means that Wolves brought in more money on sales than any of the other 19 top flight English clubs, with Manchester City coming a close second, having brought in £70.5million. The rest didn’t come close to Wolves’ total, with Leicester (£51.7M), Liverpool (£33.5M) and West Ham (£29.0M) coming in at 3rd through to 5th.
Six clubs then made no money at all through player departures, these being Aston Villa, Bunley, Fulham, Leeds, Newcastle and Sheffield United.
While Wolves made the most money through sales, they did also significantly invest in strengthening the squad, signing Portuguese international right back Nelson Semedo for 40 million euros and his compatriot Fabio Silva for an equivalent sum of money.
Indeed, Wolves were the 5th biggest spenders this window, only outspent by Chelsea (who spent a massive £226.1M), Manchester City (£147M), Aston Villa (£85M) and Leeds (84.5M).
