FC Porto complete the signing of Mehdi Taremi
FC Porto have completed the signing of Iranian international Mehdi Taremi from Rio Ave.
The Iranian striker scored 21 goals last campaign in 37 appearances, and was always expected to leave Rio Ave this summer, and despite late interest from Sporting CP, it is Porto who secured his signature.
The 28-year old is believed to have been offered higher wages by Sporting, but preferred to base his decision on the club and project, rather than the financial incentives, and the chance to play for the Portuguese champions in the Champions League was always his preference.
The signing of Taremi follows on from the recruitment of other players from the Portuguese Primeira Liga, with Porto having already secured the signings of Carraca, Claudio Ramos and Zaidu Sanusi from Boavista, Tondela and Santa Clara respectively, and thus Taremi fits the bill in terms of the type of player Porto are looking for, with proven quality in the Portuguese league.
