Cristiano Ronaldo to miss the Croatia match
Cristiano Ronaldo will not feature for Portugal in their opening Nations League match after having been left out of the matchday squad.
The Portuguese legend is out through injury, currently suffering from a toe infection, and means that he remains a doubt for Portugal's second match of the international break too, which will be against Sweden on the 8th September.
Portugal, it can be remembered, are currently defending the title that they secured in Porto last year, having overcome a group containing Italy and Poland to qualify for the finals, where they beat Switzerland and the Netherlands to lift the inaugural trophy.
João Felix, Diogo Jota and Gonçalo Guedes are among the players that could start in the place of Cristiano Ronaldo, while Francisco Trincão is also in line to make his debut.
