William Carvalho set to leave Real Betis in the coming days
Former Sporting CP star William Carvalho is set to depart Real Betis in the near future, with the La Liga outfit looking to sell in order to raise urgent funds.
The transfer taking the 63-time Portugal international away from Betis could happen in the coming days, with rapid progress having been made in negotiations.
It is widely anticipated that Carvalho will be joining Sporting’s arch-rivals Benfica in a high-profile move likely to be worth initially in the region of 15 million euros which would see him return to Lisbon and the Primeira Liga.
The 28-year old, according to Onda Betica, is due to travel to Portugal in the coming days, suggesting that the conclusion of the transfer is already close with only a few details left to finalise.
Carvalho has had a mixed three-year spell at Real Betis, where injuries have hampered his ability to make a considerable impact, limiting him to just 13 matches last season, though he has already played 14 La Liga games for the club this campaign.
Benfica will be hoping that William Carvalho will be able to replicate some of his phenomenal performances for Portugal over the years and produce the high quality football he is capable of consistency for his club. The move also sees Carvalho link up with manager Jorge Jesus again, who managed him while at Sporting CP and is naturally a big admirer of the midfielder.
Benfica have failed to impress so far this season, sitting 3rd in the Portuguese top flight, 4 points behind leaders Sporting, while they only managed to secure 2nd place in their Europa League group behind Rangers.
