PROJECTION: A look at the most likely Round of 16 bracket, and how the tournament could unfold
With late drama aplenty in both Group A and Group B, there are still 21 teams remaining in the competition that could be crowned Euro 2024 champions, with Poland, Scotland and Albania the only three sides that have officially been eliminated from the tournament so far.
With every passing match, the picture of how Euro 2024 could play out becomes ever so slightly clearer. Half of the teams that will compete in the round of 16 have already been established, with Germany, Spain, Portugal, England, France, Switzerland, Italy, and the Netherlands all assured of a place in the next stage of the continent’s biggest international competition.
Exactly where some of these teams will find themselves in the tournament bracket is less clear, however, with the overall placement of France, Netherlands and England dependent on where they finish in their respective groups, while the exact combination of 3rd place teams that are able to advance will then determine the exact match-ups we will get to enjoy in the round of 16.
In summary, there’s still a lot that is unknown about how this year’s European Championships is going to look beyond the group stage - but we can at least attempt to project how it is most likely to pan out.
With educated assumptions - and some wild speculation - this is the current projection of how the round of 16 is likely to look, with the rest of the tournament bracket then filled in as we predict how the whole of Euro 2024 may unfold.
Of course, the beauty of football is its unpredictability - and as such, attempting to decipher exactly what is going to happen is a futile task. But one can always try.
