In a surprising development, Wolverhampton Wanderers youngster Mateus Mane has been called up by two different national teams within just 24 hours.
Mane, aged just 17, has been a revelation in the U18 Premier League this campaign with 2 goals and 2 assists in 3 outings so far, and it is therefore unsurprising that a minor row has broken out regarding which country he should be representing.
The former Portugal U17 international switched alliegances in September when he was called up to the England U18 camp for three friendly fixtures. He ultimately appeared in all of them, the first of which was even against his former side Portugal in an engrossing 2-2 draw.
It is believed that the young star will choose to play for England in an upcoming four-team tournament in Marbella this month, leaving Portugal on the outside looking in.
Mane, who was born in Portugal and only joined Wolves this summer from Rochdale, can still switch allegiances back to Portugal should he prefer to represent the Selecao at senior level.
