Clinton Njie was set to sign for Sporting - but a failed medical has put his move in serious doubt
Marseille striker Clinton Njie was expected to be completing a loan move to Sporting this week, but after failing his medical eximnation, the move may now break down.
Njie, a Cameroonian international who has been capped 21 times at senior level and scored seven goals in the process, has been at Marseille since 2016, initially on loan from English Premier League outfit Tottenham Hotspur, and then permanently in 2017, but has failed to leave a significant mark on the French side, who also have former Benfica striker Mitroglou in their books.
The 25-year old forward, who possesses a good deal of pace and shows an urgency to get in behind the last line of defence at many given opportunities, won the African Cup of Nations with Cameroon in 2017, playing for the same side as Porto's Vincent Aboubakar, and was expected to be Sporting's latest recruit as they look to bolster the attacking options at the disposal of Jose Peseiro, but the move will now potentially fall through.
He would have been the second striker Sporting signed in a matter of days, having also just recently completed the signing of Malian international Abdoulay Diaby.
