Fenerbahce complete signing of Leicester striker as another Sporting target goes elsewhere
Islam Slimani joins Turkish outfit Fenerahce on a season-long loan.
Sporting CP were thought to be targeting the Algerian striker, who has been capped 58 times at international level, but he has ultimately joined the Turkish Super Lig side, who finished second in the league last season.
Slimani previously spent three successful seasons at Sporting until he was sold to Leicester City for a fee in the region of £28million. The 30-year old forward has since endured a frustrating time in the English Premier League, not able to impose himself on the league as he did in Portugal.
He was ultimately loaned out to fellow Premier League outfit Newcastle United, where he struggled to make a significant impact after a thigh injury put him out of action for several weeks. This was followed by a three-match ban for violent conduct in a league clash with West Bromwich Albion, limiting him to just 4 Premier League appearances in 5 months for Rafa Benitez's side, failing to score in the process.
Slimani follows Lucas Perez as another player Sporting failed to bring in as they looked to strengthen their attacking options in time for the new season.
