Filip Krovinovic will play in England next season
Benfica attacking midfielder Filip Krovinovic is set for a season-long loan in England.
The 23-year old Croatian will play in the English Championship for West Bromwich Albion, with Benfica set to receive 350,000 euros in return.
Krovinovic was very close to joining Guimaraes earlier this window, but Norwich City then hijacked the move and looked set to secure the Croatian’s signature for the upcoming campaign.
However, West Brom, managed by fellow Croatian Slaven Bilic, then swooped in and pinched the playmaker, the presence of a compatriot as coach a factor in Krovinovic’s decision.
It can be remembered that Krovinovic established himself as a key player for Benfica in the 2017-18 season, taking his opportunity in the senior team and cementing himself as one of the first names on the team sheet with his passing and dribbling ability.
However, his season was ultimately cut short after he suffered a devastating ACL injury, limiting him to just 13 league outings over the entire campaign and keeping him out of action for 10 months.
He returned in November 2018, but only played in 12 matches across all competitions throughout last season, struggling for fitness and finding himself squeezed out of the first team thanks to the introduction of academy products Florentino Luis, Gedson Fernandes and Joao Felix.
