Sporting winger set for move to England
Teenage star Felix Correia is set for a move to the English Premier League.
Sporting had been very keen to keep hold of the 18-year old and were looking to tie him down to a longer-term deal, but were unable to do so.
Instead, Correia, who has represented Portugal at all youth levels up to the U19s, is to leave the club for a fee in the region of 5 million euros.
Correia will be switching Lisbon for Manchester, with Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City signing the Sporting academy graduate.
The Portuguese teenager will be Manchester City’s first signing of the summer window, and will undoubtedly be one for the future.
Correia, it can be remembered, was at the Toulon tournament this summer, and scored Portugal’s third and final goal in a 3-2 victory over England, a well-taken volley thundered past the England shot-stopper.
While he impressed on the youth stage, Correia never actually made his Sporting debut for the senior team - though he does undoubtedly have a strong future ahead of him.
Benfica were also interested in bringing in the right-sided winger from their arch-rivals, but ultimately Manchester City won the race for his signature.
Manchester City are also closing in on the signing of Portugal international right back Joao Cancelo.
