Wolves face competition from Spain to complete the signing of Palhinha
Wolves are one of the English clubs that have shown considerable interest in defensive midfielder Joao Palhinha, though other clubs are looking to sign the Sporting CP player.
Specifically, Wolves face pressure from fellow English Premier League clubs to bring in the dominant Portuguese midfielder, with West Ham another club that have been associated with signing 25-year old, while TVI24 revealed that Joao Palhinha’s future currently lies between Spain and England, though did not reveal the interested parties.
However, the two Spanish clubs understood to have shown the most interest in Palhinha are Real Betis, who may opt to sign him so a replacement for William Carvalho, and Sevilla.
Palhinha spent the entirety of the 2019-20 season on loan at Braga, where he played 44 matches across the course of the campaign, 27 of which came in the league, as he helped his side to a 3rd place finish in the Primeira Liga, as well as playing a significant part in their Europa League run.
A talented defensive midfielder with good physicality and the ability to dictate the game, the former Portugal U20 international has not done enough to convince the Sporting hierarchy, and he is one of the players they are willing to sell to bring in more funding.
Sporting will be looking for a fee in the region of 15 million euros for the services of Palhinha, while they are also willing to sell Marcos Acuna for a similar fee.
Sporting only finished 4th in the league standings, beaten to the 3rd place spot by Palhinha’s loan club Braga on the final day of the season.
