Arsenal continue their pursuit of Joelson
Sporting’s young star Joelson Fernandes has been of significant interest to English Premier League club Arsenal, who have had yet another bid for the Sporting youngster rejected.
Having already attempted to pay below the valuation of the 17-year old Portugal youth international, Arsenal came in with another bid, this time with a valuation of 32 million euros.
However, Sporting continue to hold out for a value matching his release clause, hoping to receive 45 million euros for one of their biggest financial assets.
It is anticipated that Arsenal’s interest in the player will ensure that they return with an improved offer, but whether they are willing to pay the release clause remains to be seen.
Joelson has already played four times for Sporting CP despite his young age, and Arsenal have been attentive to his situation, having previously submitted an offer of 15 million euros for his services.
It is understood that Arsenal will be willing to match his release clause if necessary, although realise that they could capitalise on Sporting’s financial issues and pay a lower fee.
What also helps Arsenal is that Joelson has still not extended his contract with Sporting, which expires in 2022.
Sporting have been hoping to increase his contract termination fee to as much as 100 million euros, though Joelson is likely looking to keep his release clause low in order to keep his options open and to not be priced out of a move in the future.
Borussia Dortmund have also entered the hunt for the 17-year old Portugal youth international, who is highly rated by his boyhood club, and the Lisbon club believe that he has the potential to reach the very top. Manchester City and Chelsea have also been pointed out as potential suitors.
