Boavista target Portuguese legend Bruno Alves and former Manchester City midfielder Javi Garcia
Boavista are targeting a huge summer transfer window as they look to lure former Porto defender Bruno Alves and ex-Benfica midfielder Javi Garcia to the club.
As Boavista look to establish themselves as one of the ‘best of the rest’ in the Primeira Liga, and aim for a long-term goal of eventually building towards maintaining a challenge on the big clubs on the domestic stage in the manner in which Braga have been able to do, Boavista are looking to sign two well-known names this summer.
One of them is Portugal’s seventh most capped player in history, Bruno Alves. The physical centreback, who has represented his country 96 times at senior level, is currently on the books of Parma - and despite now being 38 - set to turn 39 in November - he played a huge 34 games last season for the Serie A club, captaining the side in virtually every game.
Indeed, a lot is made of Portugal’s hero Cristiano Ronaldo’s fitness levels, though one player that surely beat him is Bruno Alves, whose physical shape remains extroardinary despite closing in on 40.
His leadership, strength and defensive awareness would be huge in taking Boavista to the next level on the short-term, and would no doubt be a huge coup for the club in terms of his reputation and stature.
Alves has such an impressive season with Parma in the 2018-19 season that he was even linked with a move to Juventus, though a transfer never materialised.
Alves is not the only experienced household name that Boavista are targeting, though. Former Benfica and Manchester City midfielder Javi Garcia is another name that is firmly associated with the Portuguese club, who is currently on the books of Real Betis.
The 33-year old Spaniard, who represented Betis 9 times this season, is in need of a move to secure more regular game time having played more regularly in the 2018-19 season, taking to the field on 22 occasions.
The two-time Spain international played 132 games for Benfica during his time in Portugal, as well as 76 matches for Manchester City and 108 outings for Russian champions Zenit St. Petersburg.
