Vitoria Guimarães determined to keep Marcus Edwards, record fee required to take him
Vitoria Guimarães are desperate to keep hold of star English attacker Marcus Edwards for the upcoming campaign after a sensational debut season in Portugal.
After the signing of Ricardo Quaresma, there were suggestions that Guimarães may look to cash in on Edwards while his stock is high - but it understood that the Portuguese outfit would only be willing to entertain offers that surpassed the club’s current record transfer departure, which was set by Tapsoba in January of this year.
Bayer Leverkusen parted ways with 18 million euros to bring centreback Tapsoba to the club, topping the 8 million euros that Manchester United paid Guimarães for Bebe back in 2010.
Guimarães would therefore require at least 20 million for the 21-year old winger, who scored 7 and assisted 5 in 26 league games for Guimarães last season.
Guimarães, it can be recalled, brought in Marcus Edwards from Tottenham Hotspur on a free transfer, but Spurs maintain 50% of the player's economic rights and thus any future sale fee.
Edwards’ stellar season even earned him a nomination for the Primeira Liga player of the year award, which was eventually won by Jesus Corona.
