Official: Benfica sign Almeria star Darwin Núñez for club record fee
Darwin Núñez has officially signed for SL Benfica, becoming Benfica’s most expensive signing in history.
The highly rated 21-year old striker joins from Spanish second division outfit UD Almeria for a fee of 24 million euros, eclipsing the 22 million euros that Benfica spent on Raul Jimenez back in 2015.
The Uruguayan international signs a five year contract valid until 2025, and has been protected with a 150 million euro release clause. Almeria retain 20% of his economic rights.
Núñez has been of considerable interest this summer, with many English Premier League outfits interested in his services, including Sheffield United, Brighton and Hove Albion and Southampton, while Inter Milan were also said to be looking at the Uruguayan forward.
