Wolves sign former Benfica and Nacional defender
Wolves have completed the signing of former Benfica and Nacional player Marcal on a two-year deal from Olympique Lyonnais.
The 31-year old left back joins Nuno Espirito Santo’s side for a fee in the region of 2 million euros, and is their second signing in two days, having already completed a move for Porto’s young star Fabio Silva for 40 million euros.
Marcal had a good season for Champions League semi-finalists Lyon last season, featuring in 26 games for the club across all competitions from both centreback and left back. He also played the entirety of both legs against Juventus in the Champions League round of 16, and against Manchester City in the quarter final.
The Brazilian moved to Portugal at the age of just 20, joining Torreense on a free transfer, before making the move to Primeira Liga outfit Nacional, where he made a name for himself, playing 27 league games as Nacional earned a remarkable 5th place finish in the Portuguese top flight in 2013-14 season, before then featuring in 29 games for the club the following campaign as they earned a commendable 7th place.
His performances earned him a move to SL Benfica in 2015 - with Nacional going to get relegated two season later - though he failed to break into the side with Eliseu and Grimaldo in the side, and he spent both seasons at the Lisbon giants out on loan, first at Gaziantepspor and then at Guingamp.
