Belenenses SAD to sign Porto star youngster Afonso Sousa
Belenenses SAD are to complete the signing of young Portuguese midfielder Afonso Sousa on a permanent deal.
The transfer will command no upfront fee, though Porto will keep hold of 50% of the 20-year old’s economic rights.
Sousa was a key player for the Porto U19s last season as they stormed to an impressive UEFA Youth League victory, beating Chelsea 3-1 in the final.
Afonso played in 7 of Porto’s Youth League matches on their way to lifting the title, scoring 3 goals from the left wing. He came on as a second half substitute in the final, and scored Porto’s third goal to seal the title.
He also had a very strong campaign across 2019-20 too. For the Porto B team, who play in the second tier of Portuguese football, he scored 7 goals and assisted 2 in 21 appearances, while in the Youth League, he bagged 4 goals in 5 games as Porto went out on penalties versus Salzburg.
Sousa has been capped at every youth level for the Portugal national team from the U15s to the U20s.
