José Fonte completes move to French outfit Lille
José Fonte has joined Ligue 1 side Lille OSC on a two year contract after having his contract terminated by Chinese Super League side Dalian Yifang.
Fonte, 34, was without a club for just a matter of days, returning to Europe after just a 6-month stint in China, where he endured an 8-0 thrashing and gave away a penalty on his debut.
After what was a rather unsuccessful spell in Asia, Fonte, who played all four of Portugal's World Cup matches last month, returns to the nation where he helped Portugal win the European Championship in 2016, the first major title the country had won in their history.
It also sees Fonte join his compatriot Edgar Ié, who he is likely to be partnering in the centre of defence for Lille in the coming season.
Lille finished seventeenth in the French top flight last season, just a single point above the relegation zone, but will begin their Ligue 1 season on 11th August when they host Stade Rennais.
