Porto beat Aves in Supertaça to claim first silverware of the season
Porto yesterday defeated Portuguese Cup champions Aves 3-1 as they earned the first domestic title available to them this campaign, winning the Supertaça to begin a season of optimism for the reigning Primeira Liga champions.
Porto fell behind early on after Falcao scored a beautiful goal to beat veteran goalkeeper Iker Casillas and put Aves into an unlikely lead.
Porto, however, responded quickly, putting the game back on level terms midway through the first half, a score which remained changeless until halftime.
Porto, despite having manager Sergio Conceiçao sent off for dissent deep into second half and star wonder Brahimi taken off for injury, still managed to regroup and pulled in front after Maxi Pereira scored from a very tight angle in the 67th minute
The match was rounded off by a late Corona strike from the edge of the box which beat debutant Aves goalkeeper Quentin Beunardeau.
This was Porto's twenty-first Supertaça victory in their history.
