Bruno Fernandes could be sold in January
Sporting CP captain and talisman Bruno Fernandes has made a blistering start to the season, picking up from where he left off last time around.
So far, he has netted 8 goals across all competitions this season and chipped in with a further 5 assists. That’s 13 goals that he has been directly involved in this campaign in just 13 appearances.
His contribution to the team stretches far beyond his goals, of course, though the scale of his goalscoring prowess from an attacking midfielder position makes him a highly desirable asset, and is why he has been linked with a move to the English Premier League for months now.
It came as a surprise that he remained a Sporting player this season, linked with high-profile moves to the likes of Manchester United, Liverpool and Real Madrid, though no move ultimately transpired, meaning that he remained at the Lisbon club.
However, Sporting CP are open to selling their biggest asset as soon as this January, confident that they can reinvest the money gained from his sale appropriately to strengthen the squad across the board to ensure they once again become a serious title challenger in the Portuguese top flight.
Whether a club will be willing to pay the 60 million euro asking price, though, remains to be seen. Manchester United remain perhaps the most likely destination, very much in need of strengthening to revitalise what has been a tumultuous season, though the price may be deemed to steep for a player who has only ever had experience in Portuguese and Italian football.
Tottenham are another plausible option, particularly if Christian Eriksen gets his desired move to Real Madrid.
