Famalicão player included in the latest Argentina squad
If further evidence was required of Famalicão's impressive exploits this campaign and their rapid rise to the upper echelons of Portuguese football, the inclusion of one of their own in the squad of one of the most reputable nations in world football is surely sufficient.
Nehuén Pérez, who has played all 9 of Famalicão's Primeira Liga matches so far this season, is included in the 26-man squad put together by Argentina manager Lionel Scaloni for friendly fixtures against Brazil and Uruguay on November 15th and November 18th respectively.
To get a call up to the senior national team at the age of just 19 while playing for a lesser known Portuguese club shows just how impressive Perez has been at the heart of the Famalicão defence, crucial in helping his side obtain an impressive 3rd place position domestically at this early point in the season.
This is, unsurprisingly, his first call up to the senior Argentina squad, having represented his nation at both U17 and U20 level.
Nehuen Perez is currently on loan at Famalicão from Atletico Madrid, and he is certainly putting himself in a very strong position to represent the Spanish giants in the not too distant future.
Three other Portuguese-based players have also been included in the Argentina squad, including Porto duo Marchesin and Saravia, the latter yet to play for Porto, and Sporting's Marcos Acuña.
It remains to be seen which other Famalicão players may get a call-up to their respective national teams, with Fabio Martins in with a chance of getting called up to Fernando Santos’ latest Portugal squad.
