Real Madrid make offer for Benfica teenage star João Filipe
Real Madrid made a formal approach for Benfica's 19-year old forward João Filipe, more commonly known as Jota.
According to AS, Madrid put in an offer of 18 million euros for the teenager, who is widely expected to become one of Portugal's most promising footballers in the coming years, but that was swiftly rejected by Benfica.
They are undoubtedly holding out for much more for one of their prized assets, who is tied to Benfica until 2022.
However, while João Filipe's price has inflated over the past couple of years in tandem with today's transfer market, his release clause has not, something of Grace concern to those in the beginning hierarchy.
Currently, Jota's release clause stands at just 30 million euros, meaning that any club could get one of the stars of the future for a much lower fee than one would anticipate.
Benfica are trying desperately hard to get their young star sign a new contract to increase his release clause to 120 million euros, but so far Jota has not reciprocated.
It means that Real Madrid could potentially get their man for a fraction of the price Benfica demand.
