Carlos Carvalhal is the new manager of SC Braga
Carlos Carvalhal departed Rio Ave after guiding them to the Europa League - but his wait to find new employment was short-lived.
Carvalhal, 54, also guided Rio Ave to a record points total in the Portuguese top flight, with the Portuguese emblem earning a historic 55 points across the season, a points tally that had never been achieved before by Rio Ave in the Primeira Liga.
However, the former Sheffield Wednesday and Swansea City manager was always expected to depart Rio Ave at the end of the campaign, and he is set to take over at SC Braga.
Braga, who finished 3rd in the Primeira Liga, guaranteed a spot in the Europa League group stage on the final day of the Primeira Liga season, which will have likely helped Carvalhal decide that a move to Braga was the right one to take to advance his managerial career.
Carvalhal received a wealth of offers from various football clubs across the planet, including from Jorge Jesus’ former club Flamengo, but he ultimately decided that the correct club for him was SC Braga.
Carvalhal has previously managed Braga before, taking charge at the club for a brief stint in 2006, while he also played for the Minho outfit several times across his footballing career.
