The three teams that Benfica could face in the Champions League third qualifying round
After the completion of the Champions League second qualifying round ties, Benfica now know who they could face in their bid to reach the group stage of Europe’s most illustrious club competition.
Benfica will need to go through two rounds of qualification to reach the group stage, and will face one of three possible teams in their first qualifying stage.
Those three sides are PAOK of Greece, managed by Portuguese manager Abel Ferreira, Austria’s Rapid Vienna, and AZ Alkmaar of the Dutch Eredivisie.
The draw for the qualifying round will take place on Monday, 31st August, which will determine not only who Benfica will play, but which venue will host the one-off match.
Should Benfica win and thus make it to the final play-off round of qualification, they will face Russian side Krasnodar in an effort to reach the Champions League group stage.
